RE : STATUTORY INSTRUMENT 124 OF 2011
The long awaited extension of the SI 124 of 2011 has finally been gazette, giving the industry much needed import duty relief in order to refurbish and equip our product to meet the anticipated growth and standards.
We have just extracted some main points from the Statutory Instrument but members can get their own copies from Printflow (former Government Printers) situated at Cecil House, Ground Floor, 95 Jason Moyo Avenue, Harare at a cost of $2.
Title and date of Commencement
These regulations may be cited as the Customs and Excise (Tourism) (Rebate) Regulations, 2011
These regulations shall commence on the date of publication up to the 31st August, 2013.
Interpretation
In these regulations:-
“exclusive use in the tourism business” means being used entirely for the purposes of the tourism business in respect of their specified use, other than as a benefit to the employees or to the owner”
- Registered with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority for a period of not less than two years; or
- Approved by the Minister responsible for finance.
Rebate of duty on capital goods imported for use by approved tourism operators
The Minister of Finance in consultation with the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, shall approve a rebate of duty in respect of
- New capital equipment for Expansion; Modernization and Renovation of hotels and restaurants.
You will be required to submit certified copies of Tax Clearance Certificate, Certificates of Incorporation and proof of registration with Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and Zimbabwe Council of Tourism (ZCT). Please note by virtue of being the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) member which is a sub-sector of ZCT, you are automatically registered with ZCT.
