The above much-awaited instruments have finally been gazetted, giving the industry much needed import duty relief in order to refurbish and equip our product to meet anticipated growth.

As Council we were delighted that our efforts, together with our parent Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, together with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority prevailed on the economic decision makers to invest in Tourism by extending such support.

The two duty exemption instruments – one for importation of capital goods and the other for specialised safari vehicles are now available from Printflow Publications (formerly Government Printers).

ZCT is organising an urgent workshop to answer Members queries on how to access the rebate facilities, with other key stakeholders involved in the process in attendance.  Details of the workshop shall be communicated to Members shortly. It is important at this stage however, to point out that the instrument on motor vehicles or SI 125 is valid for a period of 6 (six) months from the date of publication and applies specifically to Safari Vehicles. SI124 which relates to capital goods to be used in hotels and restaurants as well as boating equipment will run to 31 August 2013. The above-mentioned workshop will therefore be a must for all players to attend so as to understand the mechanics of the statutory provisions for accurate application and processing as time is clearly of the essence.
